A CITT OF CRETE. PALIS. January 21. Two French girls. Mdlle. (hiilie and Desaussure. have discovered remain- of the ancient city of Mallia. the capital of Eastern Crete, built in '21(10 B.C. The remains of the dwellings discovered are apparently of colonnaded bungalows. There arc als-i vases and statuary, of which the design has been hitherto unknown. The stones arc engraven with symbolic signs belonging to no known writing.
