LIBERAL-LABOUR CAMPAIGN.
MR. VEITCH'S TOUR. GOVERNMENT I.OSINU GROUND. (IIRISTt'HL'Itt'H. Tuesday. !Mr. AY. A. Vcitch. M.P., ivho has undertaken tin- xvurk of general organiser for the Liberal-Labour party throughout the Dominion, has returned to riiristehtirrh after a visit to Temuka, Duneiiin and Ashburton. He said to-day that he xvas only able to pay a flying visit to each place, bin as far as he could judge from the trend of public opinion, the liovernment xvas losing ground rapidly, especially in the country districts. This was'largely due to the fact that, the general public were beginning to realise that the trusts and great banking institutions exerted a powerful influence xvith the tioxcrnment, xvhieli xvas against the best interests of the community as a whole. In the Temuka electorate a gocd candidate xvas already assured, but a final announcement xvould not hi- made until a meeting of representative delegates from the xvhole electorate had been held. The position in the Ashburton electorate xvas satisfactory from the point of view of public opinion, ami the party organisation in Dunedin xvas good, a live central committee functioning well and being in close touch ivjth the different electorates in and around Hie city. Continuing, Mr. Vcitch sai<l that apparently there xvere some people in the Dominion xvho believed that the LiberalLabour party should merge xvith the Keforni party. It xvould he found that ibis agitation came chiefly from the Keforni party itseif. He xvas right against any merger between the LiberalLabour parly and the Reform party.
