Another very valuable area of bush country in the Waitakero hills is to be added to the already splendid stretches that the Auckland City Council already owns in tiie region of the city's water supply. This is the magnificent bush in what is known as Cascade Creek, one of the tributaries that come into the Waitakore River, below the big dam which forms the city reservoir on that stream. Cascade Creek area contains sonic of the finest kauris still left on flic ranges, and also all commercial ' limbers, and apart from this fact the area has a whole lot of other trees which are of great interest to the student of the New Zealand forest. The place is also a bird sanctuary, and it has great value from a botanical point of view, for there the student can study nn exceptionally varied collection of the New Zealand plants. The Waitakere bills are noted for the wide range of plants to be found there, and the Cascade Creek vicinity is one of the richest on the hills. And then again, from a scenic point of view, the area is a wonderful asset, to the city, ami not the least of its recommendations is its accessibility, the place being within an hour's drive from town. For a long while lovers of the hills have been trying to get this delectable spot reserved for the people for all time, nnd now the negotiations between the Council nnd the Kauri Timber Company | have been satisfactorily concluded and the people of Auckland become the i owners of just, over 1000 acres of some of the loveliest bush within a very short distance of Auckland.
