-■— ■ ■ - » ■ ...- --_ MR. MATTHEW MURDOCH. The death occurred in Wellington on Thursday of a very old and respected citizen in the' person of Mr. Matthew Murdoch. Mr. Murdoch, who was in his STth year, was for very many years a familiar figure in the life of Wellington. He came to New Zealand as a young mini in 1860, and like many other enterprising spirits tried his luck at the j Southland gold diggings. About 1802 j lie came to Wellington, and for over sixty years fie has played a part in its private and public life which earned , him the respect and goodwill of all who : knew him. In business life he was a building contractor, and bis knowledge 1 and experience enabled him for a num- , bcr of years to render valuable service to the city as v member of the City ' Council. lie was one of the early' members of the Thorndon Howling I lub. and Mr. Murdoch, who was pre-I deceased by bis wife some eleven years j nco. is survived by a family of seven — Messrs. Herbert and Howard Murdoch. | of Wellington: Messrs. John and Phillip ■ Murdoch, of Auckland: and Mrs. T. M. I Crant. Mrs. W. 11. Lambert, and Mrs.' S. E. Lambert. The funeral took place
