Lord AUenby, High Commissioner of Egypt, at the Residency in the presence of the principal officials, presented Fred March with the silver medal of the I Order of the Empire, also a cheque of five thousand Egyptian pounds. Lord ADenby paid a tribute to March's remarkable coolness and courage at the moment of attack. He almost succeeded in earing the Sirdar's life. — (A. and N.Z. Cable.) Fred March is an Australian ex-sol-dier who at the time of the mortal attack on the Sirdar, General Sir Lee Stack, in Cairo, was driving the Sirdar's car. When the assassins fired their automatic pistols, March, although himself hit, seeing that his officei was wounded, drove at the highest attainable speed to the Residency, hoping by his promptitude to save the general's life. March has always taken a keen [interest in motor care, and prior to becoming tl.c chauffeur of the late Sir Lee Stack, kept a garage.
