SUMMER RACING.
THE AUCKLAND CLUB. ■; PROGRAMME FOR OPENING ! DAY. j THE FIELDS REVIEWED. h The summer Meeting or tne Auckland , Bi-lng flub will be Inaugurated at Ellers- i lie on Friday, and will he continued on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of next week " This is one ul' the must popular Hxlures In .New Zealand, and. given line weather, there is sure lo be a large attend- t anrr The grounds are looking a picture, and visitors will nnd much lo Interest them in the beautilul rural display that is a reatun- or meetings at Ellen-lie. One , cannot recall when the main enclosure ana the approaches ironi th- gates lou.ced lei- { ter. and Mr. A. Hill, the course manager. - and his slalT are to be congratulated on ; their work, which is really artistic. Prorcedliigs will commence with the Oueen's Plate, a hack race, with special weights, over a mile. Knighthood has shown good form on the Hat and also over liuidles, and with 8.0 nc ruay be hard to dispose of. Arch Anile, which ran second in the Takapuna Plate. Is a tisctu marc ' while Piquant, a four-year-old (Illy b> Somtne Kiss—Crundell Chick, an English I importation, owned by Mr. V. Riddilord. may also come In ror support, She scored . in a six-rurlong race, at Feildfng recently, j while last season she won two races, in- | eluding the Tlnakori Handicap at Welling-, ton Autumn Meeting, m the good time ol 1 13 She was placed on three other occa- j si'ons. This tiny appears to lie pretty well j at present. Quiescent, which races in the same. Interests, won one event as a twovear old last season. Tanadees can run out a good mile, while Degage has scored on rour occasions this season, including the Seymour Handicap at the New /ealand Cup Meeting, running the seven furlongs In 1 26 Ring the Bell impressed by his win in 'the Melrose Handicap at Takapuna, and whether he Is started'in this race or tn the Robinson Handicap, he Is sure to be rancled. Probably when the machine closes Degage, Piquant and Ring the Bell will be In most request. The Great Northern Foal Slakes should prove a most Interesting race, ror there is plenty of good material left, despite the defection or Automnc, which ..rerently developed a cold and had to be withdrawn. King's speech won a double so impressively at Takapuna that he is sure to be difficult; feMbeat. However. Hyde Park showed good rorm when he ran second to Automnc in the Avondale Stakes,, and occupied a similar position behind Automnc In the Welcome Stakes at the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting. With Automne out or the Musket Stakes on the second day Hyde Park walked in, and, going on toFellillng. was runner-up to Tamatete in the Orua Stakes. On perrormances he must be fancied. Runnymede won a couple or two-year-old events at Wellington, and was placed second to cyrene in the C-J.c. Welcome Stakes. He looks as though be has improved since the Wellington meeting, and ho will be one which will not be neglected. Anklet, belonging to Mr. G. M. Currle, who raced Motley successfully as a two-year-old last season, has no perrormances to commend her, ttiougn she showed a ralr turn or speed on tbe track when she beat King's Speech over hair a mile the other morning. Star Stranger is a promising youngster, while Mimetic Is imprpying. King Lv won a double at Hamilton, and has more than averago pace. Mandane, trained by F. TUlcy, is a likely-looking sort. When the flnal ngures are adjusted probably King s Speech, Hyde Park, and. Runnymede may be tho order ot ravourltlsm. The Robinson Handicap has drawn a field or 31, some or which have engagements in the Queen's Plate. If Piquant and Ring the Bell aro reserved for this they will be in demand. Desert Glow is good at seven rurlongs, and that he is in good rorm was demonstrated by his recent win at Walpa. Plnori is a userul sort, and Kilris, which belongs to Mr. W. R. Kemball, though she did not win, shewed a rair amount or speed last season, being placed on three or four occasions. She has only started once this season, and railed. Archibald Is a good sort, while Cherry Ripe showed sufficient pace In the Te Awamutu Cup to suggest that he will have a show. Lapidary, on his running in the Jellicoe Handicap, must be rancled while Muscarl and Pinon will not be without friends. The public will probably, in the absence or Piquant and Ring the Bell, select Desert Glow, Archibald and Cherry Ripe. The Auckland Cup will provide some room for thought, and the betting will take a very wide range. On perrormances this season tbe top weight. Gold Light, will have to be reckoned with U she faces the barrier. She ran second In the New Zealand Cup with. 9.0, and later won the Canterbury Cup, two miles and a-quarter, In time that equalled tho Australasian record. These races alone entitle her to respect. Musketoon has exactly the same weight as he carried into third place In the New Zealand Cup, and he Is meeting Gold Light on 71b letter terms. lie won at Wanganul In the spring, was third In tho Avondale Cup to Gold Light and Boomerday, and at the Wellington Spring Meeting beat Gold Light over a mile and three furlongs by a head. Gold Light, however, reversed matters by winning the champion Plate, one mile and a-quarter, on the next day, Musketoon being unplaced. Musketoon was sore arter his Now Zealand Cup race, but he now appears to be all right again. Te Kara is a really good sort, and looks very well at present. Last year he and Muraahl deadheated Tor the event. The latter is a line stayer, and he Is also in good fettle. Royal Present and iuumlnatlon are entitled to respect after their Mltchelson Cup performances, when they llnlshed as named. Illumination since dead-heate. for -the. Alison. Cup, one mile two furlongs add ahalf, and -won the Hamilton Cup, one mile and a-half. Royal Divorce won the Eclipse Stakes:at .wanganul, ana, on going on to Christchurch bo was only beaten by a head in the Fendaitori Handicap, one mile, an-a-quarter. At Woodvllle recently he- won the Gothard Memorial Handicap, one mile and a distance. Those who saw him at Woodvllle are of the opinion that he will have something- to say at the finish lr started in tne. Cup. i Polonett has raced most consistently recently, lie won the big race each day at Thames and deadheated with Illumination in tho Alison Cup. one mllo and two furlongs and a-haif. He Is right at the-top of his form just now. and with only 7.. on his back is sure to be among those favoured. Stor_ showed up well In a gallop at Ellerslie over a mile and a-hair during the week, while Right and Lert. which is on the minimum, has been going along nicely. Limelight, which comes Trora Christcnurch, was unplaced In the New Zealand Cup, but on the rollowlng day won the Metropolitan Handicap, one mile and a-hair. This maro was galloping well Just berore she lert Riccarlon ror Ellerslie. The public may possibly fancy Polonct, Gold Light, and Te kara. t- ,£ nti J? Ko < which ran second to Lochson ra tne Grand National Hurdle Race, is sure I Sj' oll rancled Tor the Grarton Hurdles, while Sea Doll. the winner or the Great ' may also carry good support. - IH° a »way Handicap win cause the public some concern, for the handicanne? bas concealed the winner Jlu l vp , Blood is top weight WmV.B, or%» mor a c lhan he was we ghted at mi. th_ =t„., J . must take some beating. Dan Quin won the sprint event each day at the Auckland Hacing Club's Spring Meeting, and he will have 10 be reckoned with. Grand Knight i- an English importation, and has only started twice In the Dominion, when be ran unplaced at Woodvllle rerently. He was a inure than promising two-year-old in England. On appearances he seems a llkelv sort. Lucius was a good sprinter a season or two ago. and by his double win al Takapuna it seems as though he is just returning lo form. Finclli is very smart, and it is Just a question whether she will stay out the last bit In surh a good field. Deluge showed promise early in the season when he won at Wangauttl, while Hlpo Is menu up to a mile. Civility, who ran a p..od gallop at Ellerslie this morning, Will have rrienils. GC those lower down Dallvmoy Impresses most. She ran well in the Takapuna Plate, leading the field ri.r about sis rurlongs. At Ellerslie this week she ran six rurlongs with Landslide and I'avn and she and Landslide wound mi together in front in 1.17 —a good gallop The puhllc will probably support Royal Blood, Dan Quin, Civility and Lull' Shirley is not started 1n the Great Northern Foal Stakes she will be sure or support In the Nursery Handicap, ror she has rared very consistently this season, and with 8.1 -1 she will run out a good five furlongs. Cold Acre and Star Stranger appear to be improving two-year-olds. The latter has been placed on three occasions this season. Master Mind may be all the better Tor the recent racing he has bad. , , The Christmas Handirap is one or the hardest races or the day. ror there are so many good ones in it. Surveyor, even with ') in must be given a chance, whin Royal Divorce, U started In this event Ji preference to the Cup, will have plenty of Mends. Tarleton is userul at a mile, wlille Inrerno Is very well just now. Loyal Irish, Spoony, Lady Ridicule. Landslide. Gala nay. Mount Marta, and Sandstar have j all good performances to commend them. I However, inrerno, Sandstar, and Landslide may find most ravoilr with the public. The first race is timed to start at 11.30 a.m. each day. and there will be a rrequent tram and train service to the course.
