SPRING RACING.

I"' I ■ —- THE JAKAPUNA JOCKEY CLUB. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW. THE FIELDS REVIEWED. The spring- meeting- or the Takapuna Jockey Club will open at Devonport to-morrow, and judging by the fields engaged some most interesting racing should ensue. The acceptances are in every way satisfactory, and the handlcapper, with his adjustments, has set" the public a rather hard task in discovering the winners. The programme will open with the Melrose Handicap for which twenty-three are carded. Plnon Is stated to be an unlikely starter, and next in order conies Passionate, who has shown pood form this season, though It is only latterly that he has got on the winning list when he carried 7.7 and won the Tauwhare Hack Handicap at the Hamilton meeting. With 8.9 Passionate has got all he Is entitled to, but lie is such a good honest sort that he is sure to have supporters. Bcvis won a couple of seven furlong races at Thames recently w-Ith weights ranging rrom 7.7 to 8.4. and he will be one or the hardest to beat, for he has got through his work sufficiently well on the track since then to show that the racing he received at Thames has improved him. Ring the Bell, the imported youngster In J. T. Jamleson's stable, will also have support, and when the machine closes, Bevis, Ming the Bell, and Passionate will probably be tbe order or favouritism. The Borough Handicap, Includes some very good ones, and the public Is sure lo be somewhat perplexed In arriving at a ravouritc. Alfort is a good horse, and if properly right must stand more than a passing chance, while ir Surveyor was at his best no one would wish Tor a belter horse. However, one is not satlshed that he has had the necessary work to carry 9.3 to victory, though he Is such a great sort that it would he unwise to write him out altogether. Town Bank has gone on the right way since he won the Great Northern Guineas, and Is sure to be handy at the finish. Joy Ride Is just coming into form and there is no doubt about his ability when right, while his stable companion Prettyman, Is very well just now, and Aucklanders will recollect his performance at the last A.R.C. Summer Meeting when he ran second to Royal Divorce ln tho Robinson Handicap, and won the Goodwood Handicap of a mile on the concluding day. Master Doon always runs an honest race while Sanstar won the Normanby Plate, one mile, at the last A.R.C. meeting, and also scored over six rurlongs at Whangarei. Namutore is very useful over seven furlongs, while Gala Day and Charlady have Seen doing an that is required or them on the track. The public may possibly select Alfort. Town Dank, Prettyman and Gala Day to carry most of their investments. Rippling is a good sound Jumper and after his running at Hamilton is sure to be well fancied for the Ponul Hurdles. Waloeka Jack bas won on the n»t and over hurdles and appears to be a good sort, while Advent Is good at a mile and a-half. and Is pretty well Just now. Knighthood has run well on the nat and in his essays over hurdles at Eilerslie has displayed jumping ability. They are a good lot in the Alison Cup. Ruapapa ran so well in the Metropolitan Handicap and the Fendalton Handicap at 1 Rlccarton recently that 8.7 should not prove oppressive to him. He won the Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap with 8.0 in the saddle last January. Royal Present seems as though he Is back to form, but ono would prercr him over a mile and a-hair. On the second day or the A.R.C. meeting with 51b less than he has got to-morrow he failed to show up In the King Edward Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, after winning tho Mitchelson Cup, one mile and a-half. Illumination is a good horse and one has only to recollect his performances at Avondale, Eilerslie, •and Hamilton, to give him a show. Loyal Irish has been training well and looks in good heart, while Polonctt, on his Thames performances, must be hard to dispose or. Spoony has shown sufficient form during the last few months to say that J. T. Jamleson's representative will not be without Mends. Though a slow beginner, if anywhere handy at the llnlsh, Spoony with 6.7, win make his presence felt. When all the figures are adjusted on the totalisator, Illumination, Polonett, Loyal Irish and Spoony may be the order of favouritism. The Cambria Handicap Is a two-year-old sprint, and there is not a previous winner among the lot. Merry Damon, who ran second on two occasions to King Lv at Hamilton, has the best credentials, and there is no doubt about this youngster staying out the five rurlongs. Master Mind gave good promise in the early spring, but a cold prevented him being started at the Avondale meeting, but he ran rourth in the Welcome Stakes. Gold Acre is an improving colt, while King's Speech and Oration arc two good youngsters. The public will probably select the competitors in the above-named order. The Takapuna Plate is a newly instituted event over seven rurlongs at special weights. A large neld is sure to go to the post, and among those engaged Ballvmoy has been galloping well at Eilerslie, while good reports are to hand concerning Slaosl, who comes rrom the Wanganui district. Son o'Mine showed good form at Avondale and the recent A.R.C. meeting and be should be handy at tbe llnlsh. The order on the machine win probably be Ballymoy. Son o'Mine and Slaosl, while Desert Glow, who is userul over seven rurlongs, will not be neglected. Miss Mclva Is not overburdened with 10.10 in the Tlri Hurdles, while Royal Abbey will not lack ror support. Pentagram and Cherry Ripe are a userul pair, and the public may rancy them accordingly. Royal Blood will not lack ror admirers ln the Cheltenham Handicap, ror he is meeting Dan Qufn on much better terms than when the latter beat him at Eilerslie. Flnelli can run a great six furlongs, while Civility, Lady Ridicule and Lucius may be most rancled or the others. The nrst race will start at 11.45 a.m. and there will be a rrequent boat service. Tho programme is as rollows:—
