CAR OBSTRUCTION.

BUSINESS FIRMS' COMPLAINT. SHORTLAND STREET PARKING. There was before the City Council last evening a letter from Bycroft, Ltd., requesting that non-parking discs be placed opposite the firm's entrance in Shortland Street, prohibiting the parking of cars in that area, and to provide a clearance of about 40 feet, to enable the firm's vehicles to enter the mill dock.

The traffic inspector reported that Messrs. Bycroft and Hellaby experience a real difficulty in delivering goods to their respective premises in consequence of the parking of private motor caTs opposite, that the position is becoming acute, and requires constant attention, despite numerous warnings and Court proceedings, that the parking area in Shortland Street is above Field's Lane, and that there are two alternatives in dealing with the matter as presented by Byeroft, Ltd., viz., the placing of discs in the spaces required by Messrs. Bycroft and Hellaby, and the amending of the by-law to extend the 20-minute parking area above Hellaby's premises. The inspector recommended the adoption of the second suggestion.

The Council decided to instruct the traffic inspector to arrange for the parking of cars to be discontinued opposite this firm's premises.
