CONGREGATIONAL BANQUET.
PROJECTED FORWARD MOVEMENT. At the-, invitation of the Auckland Congregational Men's League,. about a couple of hundred assembled last evening in Bercsford Hall to enjoy a banquet of "good company and fellowship" vide the menu. The invitation card bore the words, "Bring your pipe," which was done in a large number of instances. The ladies of Bercsford Street, Mount Eden, and Green Lane Congregational Churches provided for the guests, who were asked on the menu to "Chum up and chat away, cut up and cat away." This being done, there followed a short programme by way of a digestive on tlie lines of "laugh and grow fat." Mr. Barry Coney, A.R.A.M., contributed a number of songs in fine style, and was encored each time. Air. Tom Garland recited several humorous items admirably, and was recalled on each occasion. The piano was kindly lent by Lewis R. Eady and Son, Ltd.
The guests having been fed, smoked, and made to laugh,- were next provided with some 'solid food for thought. Dr. J: A. Warren outlined the need for organisation to secure a forward move of the Congregational Church in New Zealand, which, he said, had in it elements that should enable it to progress in a democratic community.
The Rev. Lionel B. Fletcher followed with an impassioned appeal to the young men to enlist in the service of their Church for the general uplifting of the community.
