QUAY STREET RAILWAY.
PARLIAMENTARY AGREEMENT. With the receipt of full details of the agreement arrived at in Parliament concerning the procedure to decide upon the requisite pedestrian safeguards in connection with the construction of the Quay Street railway, the North Shore local bodies now anticipate no difficulty in readily adjusting their views in consonance therewith.
The Birkenhead Borough Council last night, upon receipt from Mr. A. Harris, M.P., of a copy of a letter he had forwarded to the Marine Boroughs' Association, setting out the exact position, heartily congratulated tbe member for Waitemata upon the arrangement he had made, which, the Mayor stated, on behalf of the Council, would be supported by the Birkenhead representatives when the letter was considered at a special meeting of the Marine Boroughs' Association. Discussion elicited that members considered this a better arrangement than suggested by the association in many respects, though some of the suggestions of the latter might prove acceptable, and be embodied.
