POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M.). A CASE ADJOURNED. A charge of wilfully damaging confectionery and two pairs of scales to the extent" of £30, the property of Henry Cook, was preferred against Joseph Clarkson. Clarkson was further charged ■with assaulting Henry Cook. Henry Cook stated that at 7.30 p.m. on October 20, accused came into his shop and asked witness when he was going to pay a debt. When told that he had been "paid in full accused took a Hammer from his coat and broke up several large bottles and two pairs of scales. Accused was not sober, but could not be classed as drunk. Clarkson had visited witness' shop on former occasions and made trouble.

At this stage accused asked for an j adjournment to enable him to secure counsel. The case was adjourned until October 30, bail being allowed in the sum of £50. -v DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. When under arrest for drunkenness in Albert Street last night, William Patrick Kelly (54) resisted and caused damage to Constable Skinner's uniform to the extent of 5/. Kelly was fined £1 on a charge of being disorderly while drunk, and ordered to -pay expenses amounting to 17/6, in default, 7 days' imprisonment. ASSAULT. The other day Arthur Shannon (35) i was discharged by his foreman, Daniel | Lawrence Foley. Yesterday accused happened to meet Foley in a bus, when he said that "he was the man he was looking for." When Foley alighted from the bus he was struck by Shannonon the back of the neck. When charged with assault, accused pleaded guilty, stating that he was feeling annoyed at the time. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed. OBSTRUCTED A CONSTABLE. Reginald Arthur Tyke pleaded guilty to having obstructed Constable Dv Temple while in the lawful execution of his duty. Senior Sergeant Rawle stated that when the constable had a man under arrest in Pitt Street last evening. Tyke caught hold of the pri- , soner's arm. at tho same time telling 1 the constable to let his man go as he Iwas all right. Accused -was fined £2, or 7 days.
