CAUSED BY CANARD. (Received 2 p.nU MANILA, .October 21. Rioting, apparently over Chinese shops, which was beginning to reopen what promised to be a serious situation yesterday,' was 'due. to the publication of a canard that eighty Filipinos had been slain at Shanghai. Further trouble was averted by a prompt denial from the American Consul at Shanghai. Inhere has been no further casualties.—(A. and N.Z.)
