MOTOR BUS COMPETITION.
•To the r:.lltnr.i Sir,--At last the Council buses are; ready for the road and I .-ineerely hope j that'the travelling public will patronise them in preference to the privately- | owned bus. Without doubt the public j prefer the motor bus to the tram car, j but serious minded people have realised j that every time they pay their fare, in j a privately owned bus, they fail to study the welfare of the great public service, j the city tramways, and thereby jeopar- j disc the welfare and advancement of the | City of Auckland as a whole. The public do not realise the risk they run by riding in some of the privatelyowned buses. On one run, bits of boys, employed as conductors, have driven the buses. It is to be hoped that the Coun- ■ cil will take strict measures against the slip-shod manner in which private buses arc now running, and force them to run strictly to a timetable, for it is largely due to the larger amounts of money taken when they pull oil to go to the races, football, and other places, which enables expensive buses to be run at small fares in competition with the city tramways. The day of the motor bus has arrived, and I pray that the public will study the future welfare of their beautiful city, and by patronising the City of Auckland buses, thereby heed the Mayor of Auckland's appeal, and help do away with this harmful competition.—l am, etc., H. W. TAYLOR.
