LARGE MILITARY DEPOT.
WORK. AT NGARUAWAHIA. j (From Our Own Correspondent.) NGARUAWAHIA, this day. Construction of the large military lepot at Ngaruawahia has been begun jy the Public Works Department. At >resent only fifteen men are employed, md it will be a few weeks before the preliminary work has been far enough idvanced to allow of the employment of ;he greater number of men that will jventually be required. The workk at jresent consists of the erection of aclommodation for the workers and administrative staff and laying out the work ready for execution. The construction of this depot will be spread jver three years. The works to be undertaken "at first are the laying of a loop line from the railway to the middle at" the camp, a length of 60 chains; the ■onstruction of a tram line from the end of the loop line to the sites of three buildings to be erected this year; the construction of a reinforced" concrete tank on the highest point in the camp, to hold 80,000 gallons of water, which will be pumped tip from the Waikato River. The pump is already installed, and the laying down of pipes will soon be put in hand. The depot will, when completed, contain some very large storage sheds. A few cottages for the accommodation of the permanent military staff will be erected this year. Altogether this is an important public work, and the site is admirably adapted for the purpost.
