LAUNCHED TO-DAY. Tiie new ferry steamer Lake Takapuna, which refused to be launched on : Saturday, took to the water from ' : Bailey's slip this afternoon at the first j time of asking. i After her contrariness oi Saturday, j * ' the steamer was again stayed up and | " I the chocks removed from under her bot- : [ i torn and replaced, w hilar! the slipway was well tallowed. j 1 This afternoon the «tays were knocked away at about 1 o'clock, and the tug j Young Bungaree took a strain on her j hawser from the rudder-post. Imme- j 1 diately the Lake Takapuna began to j move down the slip, and. gathering J ' -pace in a few seconds, glided gracefully j ': i into the water, amid loud cheering from • ' the assembled crowd, to float upon an 8 even keel. Lying in the bay, she 1 I looked a handsome, well-proportioned j ' vessel, and should be gladly welcomed i c into commission on the Bayswater run. c The new ferry steamer is designed , to tonnage of ' 550. Her length is | 3 carry 1350 paseengcr_. She has a net j ' j 130 ft. breadth 3?._t. and depth 9ft 6in. | c I She is to be equipped with engines of j 0 450 h.p., and is expected to show a | 3 speed of lii knots.
