SOLDIERS' DOMINION COUNCIL.
REVALUATION AND PREFERENCE. | i STATE-LENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON Saturday. The Dominion Council of the Returnei Soldiers' Association appointed a com mittee to wait upon the Prime Ministe regarding the question of the personne of the South Auckland Revaluatioi Board. The Minister of Land- is to be askec to instruct district land registrars to ad vertise house properties which soldier who have built them desire to transfer. The conference resolved that it b noted with regret that the Hon. A. E McLeod had not yet made his promisei statement to Parliament regarding th demands of the R.S.A., for the reopeninj of the Discharged Soldiers' Settlemen Act, and on his allegation that th association did not represent the bull of returned soldiers' opinion. A detailed reply by Mr. McLeod t the association's resolutions regardin; land settlement was considered. Th Minister intimated that he intended t instruct Crown lands commissioners t grant preference to returned men, *he ther already settled or not, in the let ting of grazing rights. Regarding th subdivision of pastoral leases, as the; fall due, and placing them under offer t landless soldiers, the Minister said thi was already the policy of the Depart ment, provided the soldier applicants ar suitable, but the land boards had bee: instructed when no soldiers apply t allot the section to the most eligibl civilian rather than allow the land to li idle. Regarding revaluation, Mr. McLeo> explained that when the Dominio Board was unable to reconcile th values assessed by the district com mittees further reports were asked foi and district committees were asked t review their decisions in such case* Larger reductions than those reeon mended by district committees had bee made where the circumstances warrante them. Everything possible was bein .done to expedite the revaluations. The Conference decided that no actio be taken in regard to the suggestion tha it was desirable the War Pension Appeal Board should sit in centres othc than the four main ones. The question of pensioning neura. thenics caused some discussion.
