DUNEDIN BOXING FATALITY.
CORONER'S INQUEST. A yUESTION OF CUSHIONING. (B.r Telegraph.— Press Association.. DUNEDIN, this day. An inquest concerning the death ot Ronald McCallum, aged 27, in an amateur boxing tournament at Palmcrston was opened and adjourned.
Dr. Thomas stated that deceased, after falling against the ropes, struck the back of bis head on the floor, fracturing tbe base of his skull. The floor was padded. In answer to the coroner witness stated his opinion that if there had been more padding at the side of the ring, fracture of the skull would not have occurred. He thought that cushioning round the ring was required, especially for amateur boxing.
