CHURCH ACTIVITIES.
c A PRESBYTERIAN VISIT. Last night at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Devonport, a presbyterial visitation was made to tbe congregation by the Revs. Evan Harries, of St. James', J. Lamb Harvey, of St. Andrew's and Mr. Murray Bell, session clerk, of Knox Church, Parnell. There was a full attendance of elders, managers and others present. Tbe visitation lasted from 7 till 9 o'clock and the church's affairs were very fully gone into, the report of which will first be presented to the Presbytery and then read to the congregation. Most interesting addresses were delivered by the .'visitors, Mr. Harries stressing.'the point that tbe Devonport church was not content with its own success, but was seeking to establish a permanent charge at Belmont, while tbe contributions to orphanages and foreign missions was most praiseworthy. Mr. Lamb Harvey said there was v an ''atmosphere" about the Devonport Church which spoke of tbe live church, and Mr. Murray Bell, speaking as a layman said what struck him was the way the people of St. Paul's were meeting their financial burdens. At the close of tbe meeting a cordial vote of thanks to the visitors for their words of wisdom and inspiring addresses was carried on the motion of Mr. Howitt, who said the Devonport Presbyterians were always pleased to receive a visit from tbe "big guns" from the city churches. It was pointed out during the evening tbat there were 1600 Presbyterians in Devonport, and Mr. Henderson, in speaking to the motion, said that the visit would have the effect of-galvanising into more activity the - many branches of church work amongst so large a number -of their population.
