RUGBY FOOTBALL.

CHARITY MATCH. The time-honoured match between the two leading teams in the senior grade is set down lor Saturday next. The contesting teams will be Ponsonby and Grammar Old Boys, and needless to say, both will Dβ out for winning honours. There were some stirring games between the ponsonby and ■Grammar teams during the past two years, and when Grammar were in their 1 heyday of success the only club to bring about their defeat was Fonsonby. This season honours were even, Ponsonby proving the winners in the first round by 14 to 12, Grammar reversing places, scores being, Grammar 19, Ponsonby 6 In the second tryout. iAs both teams have kept well In training there is no doubt but that a goo* contest will eventuate. The big thing to remember about the game is that the gross proceeds go to the canee of charity. Unfortunately there is a great need just now for such funde among the orphanases and other institutions that have undertaken the care of the needy, and this fact alone should appeal to citizens to give the game their most warm-hearted support. Each year for many years past the Auckland Bngby Union have devoted one day to charity, bearing the whole cost of running the fixture and handing over the gross takings to the several Institutions in most need of funds. The amount has varied in many years, but more recently the sum divided lias been somewhere in the vicinity of £250, but it is hoped . that this amount will be increased on Saturday. A! goo* curtain-raiser, and one that will appeal to lovers of first-class football, las been set down for 2.15 p.m., when Mount Albert Grammar, winners of the secondary schools' championship and competitor! for the Moascar Cup on the following Saturday at New Plymouth, will try conclusions with, the Auckland Grammar School. The quality of these games are too well known to need praising, and as the match will be the final try-out for Mount Albert prior to leaving for Taranaki, the game should be open and fast, and one that should be productive of exciting play.
