MUSIC AND ELOCUTION.

CAMBRIDGE COMPETITIONS. : CHAMPIONSHIP PRIZES. (By TelesTapJi.—On-n Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. The Cambridge musical, and elocutionary competitions were brought to finality last evening when a prizewinners' concert waa held in the Town Hall before a packed house. The president (Mr. Frank Perm) awarded championship prizes as follow:— Ladies' vocal championship: Miss K. Hallj- (Cambridge), 14 points; Mrs, Colin Wood, runner-up, 10 points. Men's elocutionary championship: R. Kiddey (Hamilton), 13 points. The only; competitor to secure the requisite championship points. In ladies' elocutionary classes, Miss May Woods (Auckland) "was the highest scorer with 11 points, and Miss Dorothea Vautier (Frankton) scored 10 points, but neither secured the required points to qualify for the championship. The same applied to the men's vocal list section: J. Young (Te Aroha) 11 points and Scott (Hamilton) 10 points. A special prize for the most versatile elocutionist was won by Miss May Wood of Auckland. Gretehen Hulme (Cambridge) won the j special jnize in the children's elocuI tiunary section. The special prize for ft lie highest points secured in any pianoforte class was won by Master Bobby; Boyee, Marjorie JJoberts being runnerup. Additional results are as follow: Piano solo, under 10: Marjorie B. Roberts, 165, 1; Grace Bradshaw, 149, 2. Recital with musical accompaniment, humorous: Miss Hettie Paine, 90, 1; Mrs. Edwin Dennis, 90, 2. Male quartet: T. Eoyce. T. Hampshire. IX Congalton, and F. Perm 1. Character sketch: M. Wilkinson, 104, 1; Mrs. Hettie Paine, 102, 2; Mrs. Edwin Dennis. :S. Operatic dramatic solo: Miss Ruth Scott, 103, 1; K. Hally. 157. 2; Mrs. Colin Wood, 3. Comedietta: Mrs. .T. Walsh's party 1. J At tin- conclusion of the scheduled items both jurists (Messrs. Culford. Bell, an-! Cyril Tmvsey) ooiiprratulated the society upon t lie general success of the competitions throughout, stating that the management compared favourably with larger centres. Tin- standard of effort of the various items was quite good, and compared favourably with previous festivals.
