POLICE COURT.

(Before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M.) James Hedley (-.5), for his fourth offence for drunkenness within six months, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. On ~ charge of procuring liquor while prohibited he was fined £10 or one month.

DISTURBANCE IN PICTURE THEATRE. Seven young men, whose names were ordered to be suppressed, appeared, and all pleaded guilty to a charge that they did disturb an' audience in the Parnell Picture Theatre on July 22. Senior Sergeajit Rawle said that complaint had been made to the police that the young men had laughed, booed, and generally- made a nuisance of themselves and annoyed the audience. A seat had been damaged, but all denied responsibility. "Elated at their freedom, they evidently thought that they owned tho theatre, "seeing that they had paid for admission," added the senior sergeant. Mr. Poynton: Yes, it is just the beginning of larrikinism, and if it is not checked we will be having "pushes" here like they have in Australia. Senior Sergeant Rawle: All of the defendants are of good character. Each defendant was fined one week's wages and ordered to pay 7/ towards the costs.

BREACH OF ARMS ACT. J. Daniels, for being the owner of a revolver and failing to notify the police of his change of address, was fined 10/ and costs. UNLICENSED WIRELESS. A fine of 20/ and costs was inflicted on O. Allen -for erecting a wireless station without first obtaining a license. Similarly charged, T. Allen was ordered to pay costs only. SHORT-WEIGHT BREAD. Mr. E. W. Inder appeared to plead guilty for Craig and Cravins, who were charged with selling bread the weight of which was less than represented to be at the time of sale. Senior Sergeant Rawle said that the case was not a serious one. Out of 12 loaves which were weighed the total shortage was 14 drams. Mr. Inder said that it was defendant's first offence. Four loaves were found to be overweight. Defendants were fined £2 and costs.
