PLEA FOR LIFE.
"BORN RICH AND CRUSHED BY LUXURY." CHICAGO, August 26. A final pica for the lives of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, the Chicago boy murderers, was made to-day by Mr. Clarence Darrow, their counsel. Leopold and Loeb, sons of millionaires, pleaded guilty to tho murder of Robert Frankß, a fellow student. The Court heard evidence to determine their 'degree of responsibility. Mr. DarroW blamed disease of tho youths' minds for the crime, i They were described as "luckless boys born rich and crushed by unrestrained wealth and foolish luxury." j Counsel asked for the Court's mercy, ! saying that life imprisonment, rather i than hanging; would be sufficient punishment. After hearing the final arguments of the State Prosecutor in favour of execution, Judge Caverly will consider the case for ten days before giving his verdict.
