GREAT ACTOR TO RETIRE.
LONDON, September 4. Mr. Cyril Maude, the celebrated actormanagef, is retiring in 1025. He will first pay a. farewell visit to America.—- j(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
One of the most eminent actors oh the English speaking stage, Mr. Cyril MaUde (Unlike most eminent players) is to retire before he gets into the "slippered pantaloon" stage. Auckland playgoers Will remember Mr. Maude for his magnificent presentation of "Grumpy." His Whole stage career has been a triumph— be has even been :i successful manager, for he built and managed the Playhouse. He married Miss Winifred Emery, the eminent actress, whose name was a household Word, and who predeceased hint. Mr. Maude belongs to a nighly distinguished family. He intended to go to the Stage after he left Charterhouse, his mother, the Hon. Mrs. Maude, desiring it, but he broke down with study.and went to Canada and to farming. This is really how he Came to join Daniel Bardmann's company at Denver, Colorado. His favourite character among the dostena in Which he made life mote life-like is Sir Peter Teazle.-
