FIRE AT TAKAPUNA.
■.SHOP WINDOW GLTTED. I A lire broke out at about (i.l_ p-m----yesterday in the window of Mr. E. J • Richardson's small drapery and mercery shop in Hurstmere Road. TakapunaAll the goods in the window and some fittings were destroyed, while othel portions of the stock "in the .hop itself were spoiled 'by smoke and water. The I flames were extinguished by neighbours jof Mr. Richardson's, who "arrived with patent fire extinguishers and buckets ot water, together with the Takapuna Fire Brigade, this being the first outbreak attended by that body since the instal- ■ Union of the new engine. ! The origin of the A.- '■ ■ v mystery!At the time of the occurrence Mr. and Mrs. Richardson were having dinner in the living quarters at the rear of the shop. Hearing a noise m the trout of tlie building, and thinking that *oniebody was knocking on the door. Mr. ''Richardson went to investigate, and discovered the blaze. He immediately tried to extinguish the flames, and was later [joined 'by the brigade and other willing i helpers. The stock is insured for £3UU and the furniture for £200 in the British I Traders' Insurance Office. The building |is owned by Mr, A. Clarke.
