TAXATION OF CARS.

(To the Editor) Sir, —Since reading the report on the local bodies' conference headed by the Mayor of Auckland, I have been wondering however such a body of men could agree to such a ridiculous and out of proportion scale of charges. One only has to compare the motor cycle and side car with the private-owned motor car to see how Incompetent they are to deal with such an important matter as motor taxation. There are plenty lightweight motor cycles and side-cars that would not weigh more than 5001b including the driver and passenger, yet the conference asks them to pay 10/ per annum more than a 12 h.p. motor car which will weigh as much as three motor cycles and side cars. Take the 15 h.p. motor car and you will find that there is only 5/ more to pay. Why hit the motor cycle turn-out so hard?— I am, etc., ' F. JEXCK.
