AUCKLAND OR'KAIPARA? A deputation representing the Bayswater Ratepayers' Association' "waited on the Takapuna Borough Council last night and advised that at a recent public meeting convened bzy the com-* bined ratepayers' associations it was resolved to suggest to the council that , the boroughs of Takapuna, Northcote, ', and Birkenhead join up with the Auck- ] land Power Board in order to obtain a \ supply of electricity a3 soon as possible. < The meeting had come to the conclusion; i that in view of the fact that the dis- ] ; tricts were comparatively; near tp Auck- ] laud-it would be better for "the boroughs- f if -they joined with the city board. < Mr. Gaudin mentioned that there was t a. great diversity of opinion among the i ratepayers as to the advisability of l joining with the Auckland Power Board, < and he suggested that » written "state- i ment be obtained from the board either < guaranteeing or. refusing the necessary ' supply of power' for the boroughs in 1 question. v ' . j Mr. Wilkie said that in the event of ' the Auckland Board being approached • the council would require a safeguard • to ensure the council controlling its own ' areas. In view of the fact that, the, ' boroughs had practically come to an ' agreement under the advice of an expert ' Mr. Thompson questioned the right- of- ' the deputation. The council were not ! coming to a hasty decision',- as all three bodies felt sure that this was the best plan for the supply. The Mayor stated that until the boroughs became one" power board nothing definite could be done. It was resolved that the deputation be received.
