Hiss M. Wardell, Masterton, is visiting Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. 11. X. Kebbell, of Alfredton, are visiting Auckland. Mrs. W. J. Day (ralmerstori North) is the guest of Mrs. J. B. Ilarwood, Auckland. Mrs. A. M-. Facer Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. Curnow, Upland Road, Kelburn, Wellington. A Government House pirty left Timam by special car on Saturday for the Hermitage. It included the Hon. Lucy Jellicoe, Misses E. and M. Bloomfield, Auckland; Misses Lovvry and Phillipa Nairn, Ha\vke"s Bay" and Lieutenant-Commander Eric Rhodesi Timaru. Miss W. Bardsley, of Dunedin, leaves by the Niagara en route to New York, where she will marry Mr. E. A. Nicol, county V.M.C.A. secretary of Long Inland, Xew York. Mrs. Joseph Studholme, who has been for a trip to Fiji, is spending a few werka in Ohristchurch before sailing for England on the 2!>tll inst. She is the guest of Mrs. George Halmoro (Fenguest of Mrs. George Helmore (FenMrs. J. Hulme (nee Eva Moore) is leaving Christehurch for Auckland soon, stivtes "The Press," where she will product" "San Toy." . After the production of "Floradora" under her direction in Palmerston North, Mrs. Hulme will go to Blenheim to produce "Miss Hook of Holland." Two women in Xew Zealand have been appointed Registrars—one, Miss R. J. McKnight, is Registrar of Marriages, Births and Deaths, and can therefore presumably conduct marriages; the other. Miss A. K. Molloy, is Registrar of Births at Reporoa, Taupo district. Mr. E. Forrester-Jones, with Mrs. E. Forrester-Jones, and their son Jack, are leaving by the Manuka for Australia 1 on the 2,5 th inst. Mr. Forrester-Jones (until recently with Messrs. Wilkinson, Benle and Ti"ndlcy. of Melbourne), is taking up an important position in Melbourne. Sir Lindo and Lady Ferguson (Dunedin), expect to leave at the end of August for Canada and the States, in connection with the conferring of fellowships. Sir Lindo has bad the high distinction of being invited to accept the honorary fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (a body which corresponds to our Royal College of Surgeons). Dr. Carriek Robertson is the only other New Zealand doctor to receive this same high tribute to good work do"ne in the cause of medicine. They will be the "guests of the College of Surgeons in New York from October 20-24, and many visits to medical institutions in both countries, are contemplated. They hope to come, back in December. A pleasant function took place at Takanini on Thursday afternoon, when the ladies of the Parish Hall Guild and their friends met at the home of the president (Mrs. Knight) to bid farewell to Mrs Fawcett, who is leaving shortly for Australia. Over forty ladies were present. Mrs. Fawcett was the recipient of two bouquets and a brooch, and Mrs. Knight spoke of the esteem in which she was held by* all in the distrirt.-MuSi-cal items were rendered by Mesdames Knight, Olnley and Peploe and Miss Hogan, and recitations by Miss Hilda Smith. Games and competitions were enjoyed, the prize winners being Mesdames Hogan, sen., and Lucas, and Misses Horneman.and Hogan. The P.F..X. Club, an organisation of writers, founded by Mrs. C. A. DawsonScott, one of the best known London journalists, is making proposals 'for a world wide organisation, the object of which is to be a ee-ntre <if contact through which writers in one country can be put in touch with writers in another. Proposals for a more definite organisation have been made by Senors Amerigo Castro, of Spain, and Octavio Barreda. of Mexico. Carl Van r Doran, is president of the American centre and Miss May Sinclair, of London, Marcu Beza. the centre in Rumania, and Jules Romanies that of France. It was decided at the annual session held in London that the widely organised P.E.X. Club in Mexico, which has its own magazine, ITe allowed to reproduce any printed articles written '■ by any member of the similar organisation ill America for two years without ' pay. . .- ' St. Mary's Homes, which have to appeal for funds and are holding a sale of'work to that end, have been assisted recently by drawing-room meetings held ' by "Mrs. Hardley, of Grafton Road, and ( Mrs. Yickerman, which w«re very successfill, by Mrs. Westwood, Epsom, when Miss j Girdler spoke, and also by members- of All Saints' and St. Barnabas', but any f further assistance that can be rendered . will be gratefully received and.used to help forward this good work. , ' The annual returned soldiers' ball , was held in the Papakufa Picture , Theatre. The members of the Arts and Crafte i Society, Hamilton, gave a musical "At Homo" on Saturday afternoon. The tearooms were well arranged, the tables being decorated with golden narcissi and daphne. A musical programme was contributed by Mesdames F. M. iSpencer, H. A. Young, Lonsdale, .T. McKinnon, Sinclair, Hubert Hammond, arid Mis 3 Musker. A reading was given, the parts being taken by Mesdames M. G. Bell, Martyn Williams, Page, Sinclair Arthur, Miss Fisher. Mrs. W. J. Stevens read the descriptive part.
