No importance is attached to to-day's meeting of John Weisinul.er and "Boy" Charlton in the first semi-final of the 400 metres swim. Weismuller made the pace and left Charlton twenty metres behind at 300 metres. After that he slowed down. Cliarlton, swimming easily, finished well ahead of Smith (America). Time, 0 minutes 13 3-5 seconds. In the second gemi-final, Arne Borg was not troubled. Hβ swam with the greatest case, beating his brother, A. H. Borg. and Hatfield (England). Time, o minutes 21 1-5 seconds. Beaurepaire (Australia) did not finish. The American, Browes, withdrew. To-morrow's final is regarded as one of the greatest races in the history of swimming. Three of the fastest swimmers in the world, holding between them every record up to a mile, arc a,ll at the top of their form, and it is impossible to forecast the winner In the sculling final Bcrcsford (Britain) beat liilmore (America), wit.i Schneider (Switzerland) third. Richards (America) beat Lacoste (France), B—C, 4—<i, I—6, o—2, (S—3. TENNIS TOURNAMENT. RESULTS OF FOURTH ROUND. PARIS, July 17. The fourth round of the tennis tournament has been concluded. Jacob (India) beat Washburn (America), G —l, o—4, B—lo, 6—2; Williams (America) beat Kehrling (Hungary), β-i, 3—5, 6—3, 4—o, C—3; Richards (America) beat Manuel Alonzo (Spain), 7—5, 10—8, 2 6, o—3; Demorpurgo (Italy), beat Washer (Belgium), 2—6, 6— i, I—6, 6—4, B—6;8 —6; Harada (Japan), beat Gilbert (Britain), 10—8, 2—o, 11—0, C—2; Cochet (Franc) beat Fukuda (Japan), C—2, 6—l, 6 —3; Lacoste (France) beat Spence (South Africa), G —2, 6—o, 6 —l; Borotra (France) beat Kingscote (Britain.), o—l, B—3, o—2. The victory of the Belgian player, Washer, over Hunter (America), 2—o, I—G, 6—2, G —l, o—l,0 —1, caused surprise. Hunter completcty dominated the first two sots, and looked an easy winner. Washer then changed his tactics, and by better placing and harder driving, outp'ayed the American. He was accorded an ovation.— (Reuter.)
