WHEN A WOMAN SCREAMS.
i DAMAGES FOR ASSAULT. As the result of going to ascertain the cause of a woman screaming, a man appeared at the Magistrate's Court to support his claim to recover damages for an assault. Alfred Brophy (Mr. J. F. W. Dickson) sued William Katani (Mr. J. J. Sullivan) to recover £S0 0/ for alleged unlawful assault. Plaintiff stated that he went to see the reason why a woman was screaming, when he was assaulted by the defendant. He alleged that he was bitten. He had a mark over one eye as a result of tliu assault, and had lost two Of the amount claimed, £50 was for general damages, and the rest for loss of business, and expenses incurred. Mr. Hunt gave judgment for plaintiff for £24 special damages, and £25 general damages, with costs. The defendant stated that he had "lost Srs head, as usual."
