Wilford's amendment was rejected by 37 votes to 33. The usual Government majority over the Liberal and Labour parties is three, but on this occasion Mr. J. C. Thomson (Wallace) was absent, thus lessening the Opposition vote. There was nothing unusual about the division list. a
