APPOINTING TEACHERS.
REMOVAL OF INEQUITY. SUGGESTION BY BOARD. At the meeting of the Auckland Education Board to-day a motion was moved by Mr. Campbell, "That it be the policy of the Board that no teacher shall be appointed to a position in any school over any other teacher holding a 'higher qualification than such teacher. Mr. Campbell explained that he w«s moving the motion on behalf of Mr. Vernon Reed, who was unable to attend, and in reply to a question he stated tint he was of opinion he meant "qualification" to include "grading." He quoted an instance in Bayfield school of a teacher being transferred to a pontion where he was over the heads of other teachers who were more highly graded. The secretary pointed out that the Board itself had the power to pronote teachers so as to avoid such anomaly in the case of transfer. The motion might be made applicable to positions which were advertised. After discussion the Board decided w recommend the Department to amend the Act on the lines of the motion, that it might be made effective throughout the Dominion.
