NORTHERN WAIROA.

SUCCESS OF JERSEY CLTTB. MOVEMENT FOR EXPERIMENTAL FARM. I It is claimed for the Northern ! Wairoa Jersey Club that it is one of the liest associations of its kind in the North. It is three years since the club started, and it now has a membership of 7.i, and the Jersey herd is heing vigorously pushed, there being eleven breeders in the district, who have pro- ' duced some of the best stock in the Dominion of ils class. The members of the club are most enthusiastic, antl ■ among Mother things they haye 1 in- j augurated semi-official testing, wh'ch j ha.s aroused very keen competition. Tile | club holds an annual show of Jerseys October—the only purely Jersey show in the Dominion—at Dargaville. : There were 150 entries at the last show, \ wnieh gives a fair idea of the number of i Jersey cattle now in the district. A herd-testing association has also been formed in the district, and this ' year 3200 roys were tested, with the j idea of weeding out inferior animals and raising tlic standard of the dairy ' cow —a very useful work winch should '■ produce valuable results in the near ; future. J The farmers of Northern Wairoa recently approached tho Government, and were" responsible in having the first farm school yet conducted in the North at Dargaville. where experts from the Department of Agriculture delivered lectures and gave demonstrations over a period of live days. A big endeavour is being made to get an experimental farm at Dargaville, to be conducted on the same lines as the j farm at Stratford. The farmers about j Dargaville are an enterprising body of ! men. and if the district does not develop j rapidly with their desire for increased j facilities for agricultural education it will not be their fault.
