OBITUARY.
MR. HARRY WRIGG, N.Z.C. MAORI WAR VETERAN. A well-known resident of Auckland for many years, Mr. Harry Charles William Wrigg, died at the Hospital yesterday, aged 82 years. Mr. Wrigg was born at Carcur House, near Wexford. Ireland, in 1842. In ISSG he was articled to civil engineering in the North of England, and was for some time engaged on railway construction and water works. In 185!) Mr. Wrigg joined the Dragoon Guards. He arrived in New Zealand in 18(i;i. and was engaged in survey work, including fixing permanent bench marks for levels under the Auckland Municipal Council. He saw service during the war with the Maoris in the Waikato, and also at the East Coast. He was awarded the war medal, and also the New Zealand Cross. The latter was granted Mr. Wrigg for voluntarily carrying dispatches 00 miles through enemy country ill lKlili. Mr. Wrigg successfully performed the duty of riding the 90 miles and back again. At the end of the war Mr. Wrigg was appointed assistant surveyor ami draughtsman by the Government. Later he was survey officer at Southland, from which place he was transferred to Auckland as chief draughtsman in 1871. In ISB7 he was transferred to the PublicWorks Department, finally retiring upon a pension. Mr. Wrigg was appointed draughtsman to the Duke of Edinburgh in 1808. He was also a surveyor on the gold fields. He was a wonderful artist with the pen in illuminating and fine lettering. He held first awards with silver medal. Sydney Exhibition. IS7O. Melbourne. ISSO, and Centennial, 1887. He filled the position of secretary te> the Leinster Lodge of Masons, 1.c.. Wellington Lodge. E.C.. and was a member and president of the King's Empire Veterans.
