The aciion of the Auckland City Council in declining to grant a license to a girl motor jus conductor has aroused very general interest. It has been pointed out that women are engaged—more especially in the country in much more strenuous employments than bus conducting. The point is well emphasised by the photograph above of the workers in a Southland dairy on the outskirts of Invercargill. There is one thing about it, these young women who have a hard and not always pleasant job, go about their work in businesslike costume, and certainly they have no appearance of being discontented.
