TREATMENT OF CANCER.
X-RAY INSTALLATION. AT AUCKLAND HOSPITAL. 'This is recognised by all big hospitaU as an absolutely necessary part of their equipment,' , stated Dr. C. K. Maguire at the Auckland Hospital Board meeting last night in explaining a request for the installation of a deep therapy X-ray plant for the treatment of cancer. The board, realising the importance of any treatment which would combat the dreadful scourge, which accounts for one in every ten deaths in the Dominion, agreed to enter into negotiations for the acquisition of the plant, and also took steps to provide accommodation for it in the new G.U. block. The chairman said all agreed that more must be done for sufferers from cancer. Wellington had raised a. Bum of money to. purchase radium, which at least relieved the suffering. The apparatus could be used in conjunction with radium if Auckland were fortunate enough to raise the money for the fund proposed some time ago. Everything possible should be done to relieve the scourge, and it is our duty to do so,' he averred. The apparatus, he understood, would cost £SSO.
