OBITUARY.

MRS. NATALINA TBAYES. The death of Mrs. Xatalina Con s iglia Trayes, nee McCallum, at her residence, 28, Merivale Avenue, Epsom, yesterday, came as a shock to the music-loving public, and all that wide circle of friends to whom Mrs. Trayes had endeared herself. Born in New Zealand 29 years ago, Mrs. Trayes, when quite young, gave promise of being a fine singer. Uultimately she studied at tne Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, under Madame Ooossens-Viceroy. From Die time of her return, Miss McCallum, as she then was, charmed, not only Aucklanders, but music-lovers throuphout the Dominion with her beautiful voice, which gave every promise of bevoce, which gave every promise of becoming even more beautiful. She sang as lyric-soprano in most of the works produced in latter years by the larger musical societies in the towns of both Islands.

DEATH OF MR. JOHN AICKIN. Mr. John Aickin, ajjed. 77 years, died yesterday at his residence. Birkenh-jad. Deceased was born in Dublin, Ireland, and was the eldest son of the late Dr. Thomas Aickin, one time superintendent of the Auckland Mental Hospital. The family a-rrived in Auckland by the ship Miranda as far back as 1859. Mr. John Aickin was farming for some years at Avondale, and subsequently became a contractor and builder in the city. For a long time Mr. Aickin has been retired from business. A quiet, unassuming man, deceased was much esteemed by those who knew him. Mr. Aiekin is survived by his wife, and the following children: Mr. William Aickin and Mr. Selwyn Aickin, also Mrs. Chomondley Smith. MR. PATRICK LONG. The remains of a well-known long resident of Auckland, Mr. Patrick Long, were interred this morning at Hillsboro cemetery. Deceased was born in Ireland, but came to New Zealand over half a century ago. For many years, Mr. Long was proprietor of Arch Hill Hotel, until Grey Lynn carried no-license. Latterly he has resided at Grange Road, Mount Eden. Mr. Long was in his 85th year. He is survived by his wife and an adult family. Two sons were killed during the Great War. MS. CARL LINNEMANN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) HOKITIKA, Tuesday. A well-known merchant, Mr. Carl J. E. Linnemann, died last night after a short illness. He leaves a widow and family of four. The late Mr. Linnemann, who was 84 years of age, came to the West Coast in 18G5. MR. EDWIN ARNOLD. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The death has occurred of Mr. Edwin Arnold. . J.P., at the age of 79 years. Deceased was well known in connection with prison management and jeform. MRS. MARGARET ELLIS. (Prom Our Own Co-respondent.) MORRINSVILLE, Monday. The death of Mrs. Margaret Ann Ellis, at the age of 55 years, takes away one of Morrinsville's most enthusiastic workers for any noble cause. During the war and during the influenza epidemic she was one of the best helpers. Born at Preston, Lancashire, England, the late Mrs. Ellis came to New Zealand 42 years ago, residing a portion of her life at Feilding, where she was married, and when her husband took up a farm at Morrinsville nearly 20 years ago. Returning to Feilding for a short tome they once more took up residence at Morrinsville, and have been here for a number of years. The death occurred suddenly. The deceased collapsed while on her way to a picture entertainment, and expired at 4 o'clock next morning.
