Miss Pollock Smith, of Christchurch, who lias been on the Upper Hutt School staff, has been appointed to Hamilton West School. Mr. X- S. Hellaby and his wife (Ruth Hollingsworth) are back in London with the spoils of their tour to New Zealand and the South Seas. These comprise a large number of New Zealand scenes and particularly good ones of Fiji, and the latter are to be exhibited in the Fiji section of the B.E.E. The annual meeting of the HonoraryDivision of the Women's National Reserve was held in the Chamber of Commerce on May 9, when the following oflicers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron-, Mrs. Averill; president, Mrs. Fitchett; vice-presidents, Mrs. Teape and Mrs. Hesketh; hon. secretary, , Miss 0. committee, Mesdames I Tisdall, Bettuny. As the City Council has decided not to take any part in establishing the much-needed mothers' rest room until the Civic Square is constructed, the Reserve has resolved to adopt other means of obtaining this much-needed boon for mothers and children. Five representatives of the Reserve are meeting five members of the Civic League within the next few days, when plans for furthering this cause will be discussed and fully formulated. Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Tozer, after visiting the Islands, arrived back in Auckland on the Tofua. A social evening was given last week by Mr. and Mrs. George Ashley, of the A.B.C. "The Christehurch Society for the Protection of Women and Children took occassion of the students' procession and its dense crowds to make a collection and g-athered in £151A dance was given on Tuesday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Tancred at their residence, Ladies' Mile, to entertain some of the officers of the Fleet.
