SHOULD PLAYERS WRITE?
TRIBULATIONS OF TItDEN. CLUB TAKES A VOTE. (Received 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK. May 15. The Wcstside Tennis Club, which is tlie most influential in the United States Tennis Association, voted 181 to ]55 in support of the association's interpretation of the amateur rule respecting player writers. The action followed one of stormiest meetings in which it was heatedly charged that personal spite prompted the framing of that definition. Nevertheless it is expected the action will influence clubs throughout the country, especially since the AVestside Club, which last year constructed a new stadium for Davis Cup matches, risks a loss through a punitive depreciation of gate receipts if Tilden should be barred from play. Tildcn's adherents, however, point out that the close vote . presages a bitter countrywide debate on the ruling.—(A. and X.Z. Cable.)
