UNREHEARSED PROCESSION.

A FALSE FIRE ALARM. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHAXGAREI, Thursday. A false alarm of fire in Whangarei at 11 o'clock last night was responsible for one of the best unrehearsed processions that the town has ever seen, due primarily to the prolonged rinirillg of the electric lire alarm, which could not be stopped owing to a wire fusing. Coming down to the business area to investigate the alarm the motor lire engine was quickly joined by cars, lorries, motor cycles, ordinary push bikes, some with policemen mounted on them. All lights seemed to be kept purposely as glaring as possible.. Headed by the lire engine a circuit was made of the business area at a _mart pace, fully 30 motor cars following in strict procession. There was something burlesque about the whole business. Reaching the original starting point, somebody said the s.o.s. oriirfiiatcd in Kamo Road. Speed was clapped on to this point, the slower ones in tho procession pulling out. Here agtiin a blank was drawn, and the disgruntled firemen returned to the fire station, and their enthusiastic band of hangers-on gradually dissipated into the nig'lit.
