CHANGING A ROAD NAME.
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—Will you kindly allow mc to reply to the remarks made by the Mayor of Devonport as reported in your issue of the 12th instant re changing the name of "Grey Street," Devonport, to "Mays Street." Mr. Lamont can. be assured that there was no disrespect to the memory of the late Sir George Grey, but simply v desire to obviate confusion with "Grey Street," Auckland. The same confusion exists between "Dominion Road," Devonport, r.nd "Dominion Road," Auckland. I may say that the petition was signed by every re&ident of Grey Street, and, as the late Oliver Mays did a very great deal for early Devonport, Mr. Lamont will surely concede that the ratepayers of Grey Street had good reason for their action. —I am, etc., F. HELDT.
