STATESMEN MEET.
REPARATIONS TO ALLIES. FRIENDLY CONVERSATIONS (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) & LONDON, May 0. ■ The Ostend correspondent of the "Times" states that although no agTce- cc ment has yet been reached by the Allies : *I with regard to the application of the ,|° reparation experts' proposals, progress ' a is undoubtedly being made in that con- * nection. Tlic conferences which M. j]\ Cicorgc Thcunis, Prime Minister of Bel- I " giuin, and M. Paul llymans, Belgian Min-1 °' ister of ForoYgn Affairs, have liad with M. Poincare, Premier of France, and Mr. ■" Ramsay Mac Donald, Prime Minister of •la Britain, seem to have done much to clear ' a = tlic air. I F The Belgian Ministers arrived at ai Ostend this afternoon from London. M. *' Theunis said: "We discussed the broad * lines of the reparation problem in the light of the experts' plan. It is indis- I pensable tliat there should be goodwill. ! c _} H is evident that Mr. Mac Donald is ani- J mated by an undeniable desire to reach tl an agreement. He does not conceal his " pvmpathies with France. We return ]' favourably impressed." j " M. Hymans, when asked if an inter- n Allied Conference may be looked for in P the near future, replied: "That is a diffi- i cult question to answer. There is cer- " tainly an Allied agreement at the moment, and, judging by conversations I ' have had, such a conference may be nearer than many think." Both Ministers declare that strict i secrecy with regard to what had transpired at Chequers, the British Prime Minister's country scat, was most essential in the interests of Allied unity.—■ (•'Times.'")
