BOWLING.
.—•—— STANLEY BAY FINAL. Although the champion of champions bowling final was played a week or two ago some of the clubs are only finding their local champion now, the Stanley BayBowling Club being a case In point. When the entries for the champion of champions match were made the Stanley club entered the name of the previous year's champion and another clug did the same with one of its players, but both entries werr thrown out because the players who were thought to be deud 'certs for the position had not actually played off the finals with those who had "a leg" ln. There is rothing so uncertain as the result of a gaiac of bowls, and so It proved to be yesterday on the Stanley green, when Mr. Roy McMasters, last year's champion, and the youngest member of the club, played off with Mr. Joe Hollows, a veteran player who some time back was for two or three seasons champion of tbe Devonport Club, for the championship of Stanley Club. The game did not commence till nearly 4.30, but the spectators were treated to a rare exhibition of bowling. On the 4th head Hollows was 4 and McMasters 2. On the 7th head tbe scores were even, and then Hollows led till the 16th head, when the srores evened up again. On the 19th head Hollows was 3 np. McMasters by brilliant play scored 3 on the next head, whlcb made the score even with one head to go. The play all through had been up to the best championship form, and it was difficult to forecast who would win what had proved to be a great tnssle for supremacy. With his first shot McMasters put up a good bowl, and Hollows following lay just beside him. McMasters then put up the shot bowl, but Hollows Just managed to creep in in front of him by the fraction of an inch. McMasters failed to rest the shot bowl with his third shot. Hollows then touched his own and got It almost on klttv. McMasters' play was now to touch bis own buwl to get it right on kitty. He played with much judgment and precision, and just "cracked an egg" on his own bowl, but failed by the fraction of an inch tv get the shot Hollows had won liy the narrowest of mar" gins and did not play hi« lust howl Hearty cheers were given for both players at the end of the game. Mr. W. Lambie acted as umpire.
