A WICKED RUMOUR.
INSULT TO PERSONNEL. INDIGNANT BLUEJACKETS. (Received 2.30 p.m..) HOBART, this day. The fleet celebrations were marred by an amazing Tumour that the crews of the visiting warships were all convicts and boys from Borstal institutions on parole. The rumour, which it is thought had been spread by Communists, were at first taken lightly by the authorities, but after several bluejackets had been insulted by the suggestions of their criminality the sailors became so incensed that there was talk of taking vengeance. The trouble was averted by the captain of tbe H-M.s. Hood assjring the men the rumour would be publicly dispelled.—(A. and N-Z. Cable.)
