BLAZE AT MOUNT EDEN.
LARGE RESIDENCE DAMAGED. Fire broke out this morning just before three o'clock in a two-storeyed house of ten rooms in Marsden Avenue, Mt. Eden, owned and occupied by Mr- j Edward Hallett. .Mr. Hallctt, a widower, whose family is grown up, was occupying the house alone at the time, having arrange*, to jiut the place up for sale by auction on Friday. He " awakened shortly before 3 a.m. and found his room full of smokeHe rushed downstairs, where he observed there was no smoke, and went to •< a neighbours' telephone to give the alarm to the lire brigade. The brigade arrived promptly, to find that the fire had a strong hold of the internal woodwork of the upstairs portion of the house, and before the outbreak had been suppressed the roof was practically burned off. The house io ot" concrete, and is wen | known in Mt. Eden, as it was until comparatively recently the home of il**- ■ ._i H. E. Shackleford. It \va* insured in the . South British Office for £2500. How the fire started is not ye* known, the fire damage occurred wholly in the upstairs rooms. ,
