RUGBY FOOTBALL.
MATAMATA UiaOlf. The Matamata Rugby Union held its annual meeting lust week, there being over forty footballers present. After referring to the death of a strong supporter in Mr. J. Tyson, lhe president, Mr. W. C. Coote, spoke of the successful season the Minamata Union had had. The senior representatives, after defeating Waipa the previous seusou, had successfully defended the Finlay Cup against Cambridge, Waipa, l'utaruru nnd Morrinsville. Interunion matches had also been played with Rotorua, Piako and Hamilton. The amount of travelling had been a drain on the union's resources, as had also a building programme carried out on the unions principal playing nrea nt Matamata. However, the ground had been brought up-to-date and superior to that nf many other country unions. As a result of this extraordinarY expenditure, there was a debit of £45 1/6 at the bank. Tho auditor pointed out the unsoundness of the union's insurance scheme, and his suggestion that the rules regarding this he rescinded, was adopted. The following officers were elected ■ President. Tbe Te Aroha bantam thirds decided to affiliate with the Piako Rugby Union. The
