WAITEMATA BOATING CLUB.
Trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. W. D. Foreman, the club president, were held on Saturday afternoon, o» the course from the King's wharf, finishing off the club house. The water conditions were good, and although there was only a small mnster owing to counter attractions some even contests were witnessed. The first heat was contested by the following crews: A. Mackay (stroke), XV. Lowe, C. Rend, D. Corson, and V. Smith (stroke). F. Collinson, C. Hunt, T. Wilson. From an even start Mad-ay's crew forged abend, and staved off a strong challenge by Smith, to win by two lengths. The crews for the second heat were: C. Thompson (stroke), G. Shorland, A. Smith, Wilson, and C. Brown (stroke), L. H. "Wilson, IL Cullen, F. Wright. Brown's crew took the lead nt the start, and at the end of the reclamation led by a length. Both crews finished strongly, bnt Brown held his advantage to win by about a length. The linal, which was fought out between the crews of Mackay and Brown, was the best race of the day. The crew 9 raced on even terms all the way, but Just off the clubhouse Brown's crew put In a strong dash which was Just sufficient to give them the victory by three feet. The winning crew was: C. Brown (stroke). L. H. Wilson (3), H. P. Cullen (2), and F. P. Wright (bow).
