MINING NEWS.
I Moanataiari.—The manager reports that , during the week good progress was made in the drive on the reef in the rise. We are now out towards the slide about 45 feet. The reef is opening out, and is now 3J feet , wide, but the country on the footwall side |isof a hard nature. We intend next week jto discontinue the work temporarily and i put the men driving about 20 feet higher up j the rise where the gold was seen, as there is a totally different class of country at j this point. It will take about two days to ! get ready before we can start in this place. 1 No. 9 leader : One shift has been engaged i driving towards the slide ; progress 10 feet. The leader was about eight inches wide. showing a colour or two of gold. At six i feet a small break was met with. We have j picked up the reef through this in good | country interlaced with mineral veins. No I quartz has yet been broken through the | break, but we intend breaking down on Tuesdny next, providing it will stand up until then.
