FRANLKIN RACES. : ] FIRST TOTE MEETING. ROYAL FAME WINS CUP. ' The first totalisator meeting of the Franklin Racing Club, postponed from Saturday last, was held at Pukekohe today in fine weather. In strong contrast to up-to-date race meetings, the gathering to-day was set in the most primitive surroundings. There was no grandstand, and the "tote" was erected on a wooden framework, and was a purely tentative affair. The judge's bos was quite orthodox, but a number of tents did duty as jockeys' " quarters, weighing out room, and for other officials of the meeting. The track was rough as race tracks go, and was unrailed, with the exception of the straight. Numerous tl-tree poles dotted here and ) there at short Intervals indicated the route the riders had to take. It was a day's outing in the country with a race meeting thr_vn ih. It was novel, but it : was enjoyed. The special train from Auckland was freely patronised. Results :— RAMARAHA HURDLES of Tosovs. i One mile and a-half. .
