DEVONPORT BOYS' BAND.
At • a social function arranged by the Devonport Boys' Brass Band, last evening, complimentary remarks were made regarding the progress the band is making. The chairman, Mr. A. V. Fnier, stated that the new band room was free of debt, and that the band was so equipped that it was encouraged to make further progress and success. Bandmaster Lawn, of the Ponsonby Boys , Bnml. congratulated Bandmaster A. W. Tatton, deputy-bandmaster A. Hanken, and Messrs. Biddle mid liovard upon the way iv which their respective duties had been carried out. Other speakers praised the boys and predicted that with a continuance of steady practice, the band would be well able to hold its own in competitions. During the evening the health of the ladies who had worked toward making a nnccess of the band was enthnsiastically honoured. Selections were rendpred by the band and items contributed by Perry Taylor. It is intended to officially open the band room at a later date.
