ROWING.
THE SMITH SHIELD. The rowing clubs of Auckland will compete in a race for the honour of holding the Smith Shield for the year 1023-1924 on Saturday next at 2.30 p.m.. under the management of the Waitemnta Boating Club. Mr. \V. G. Smith, the donor of the shield, and founder and commodore of the club, has consented to act as judge, and Mr. W. G. Mason, president of the Auckland Rowing Association, has been asked to act in co-operation with him. The starter ■ivill be Mr. W. Restoii. The race will be rowed In clinker fours, probably on th« course from Orakel to the breakwater, but thia course is subject to alteration. Entries have be«n received from the West End, Auckland. St. Georce's, Waitcmata and North Shore Clubs, the crews of the three latter being aa follows :— St. Goerce's. —SI. Butcher (stroke). K. Welch. D. Hargreaves, G. Spencely, Morrow (cox). Waitemata. —T. Johnson (stroke), L. Brooker, A. Mackay, A. Bryant. North Shore.—G. Barrett (stroke), Land, Stewart, Buekland.
